Obsessed - The Review
I went into the movie with low expectations and I’m sad to say that the movie lived up to those low expectations. The acting, the plot, the action was all so predictable. Rain Forest Films (Trois, The Gospel, Stomp The Yard) can make a descent movie then the movie will make a LEFT turn and turns into crap. In Obsessed, they made that LEFT turn in the first 10 minutes and never turned back RIGHT.
From the trailer, we all knew that a temp, Lisa fell for her boss, Derek and wanted to be with him. But he is happily married to Sharon and has a young son. Lisa begins stalking him and tries to be the only woman in his life. She attempted suicide in his hotel room then goes after the wife. Again I got all of that from the trailer!
The movie quickly turns into Fatal Attraction meets The Temp meets Crush without the suspense. There were too many questions that the audience was left with. Why was she crazy? Was this the first time that she had done this? Why were the police investigating an attempted suiced? And why was a two year old still on formula? So many questions.
The plot for Obsessed listed on IMDB.com is “What started as an office flirtation culminates in a violent and bloody standoff between two women who both feel they have everything to lose -- and are both willing to die to keep from losing it.” So what movie is that because that’s not Obsessed. Or maybe that was the problem they didn’t know what the movie should be about so they gave us a big old mess. Oh and that BIG twist they say that you’re going to get at the end…it never happens unless I blinked and miss it.
The really sad thing about the movie was how the bad acting transferred from one person to another like a cold. Beyonce had the ‘bad acting cold’ and passed it to Idris then to the little boy got it. The two year old is a WHOLE other subject. Beyonce never got rid of her 'cold' but the symptoms got less severe at times. Poor Idris had to take a couple of days off from the film because he wasn’t ‘feeling well’. I think he had to take something to get over that ‘cold’. And as much as I wish I could blame Beyonce’s bad acting on the downfall of this movie, nobody could have saved this movie. It might have been a little less pain if Kerry Washington or Sanaa Lathan would have taken her place but it was really the plot of the movie. You can’t turn crap into diamonds no matter what. Sorry.
If you want to see a good thriller, then rent Fatal Attraction or Crush. You can always get Thin Line Between Love and Hate. Lynn Whitfield can play a great crazy. But if you want to go out see a movie…skip this one. Don’t waste your time or money. Now it is a comedy but we all know that it’s not supposed to be one. You’ll know how the movie ends in the first 10 minutes. When it comes on cable, sit down and watch Obsessed with a group of friends and laugh. Don’t rent it, that will cost too much. Don’t worry it will be on TV by the end of the year.

what time does your movie come on in thearters
ReplyDeleteWow...I beg to differ...the plot might have been predictable but the actors made it worth watching!!! It was not excellent; I give it a B. But it was definately not a D+ by any genuinely unbaised standards!!
ReplyDeleteLOLOLOL!!!! Dang you really gave this a high mark.. It is truly sad.. Okay, let me start with the plot.. ummm okay.. can we develop a little more?? Why does Rainforest ALWAYS do some off shoot type thing with all their movies?? But this was the WORST! On top of being predictable, this film cause great actors to suck.. (this does not include Beyonce`) When this mental affair was taking place, why didn't they include some type of evidence to give it a twist??? For instance.. there was no semen on"Lisa", she wasn't pregnant by "Derrick" from raping him in the hotel room, etc.. I mean c'mon now.. And Beyonce.. I respect the fact that you have come a LOOOOONNNG way from "Fighting Temptations" but ummm.. errr.. ahhh.. let it go shug.. you did try to be strong but it just wasn't believable.. and what was up with that ending?? Sucked rocks... Attn Rainforest Films: Please DO NOT attempt to sell me a false sense of hope for an outstanding psychological thriller and leave me hanging..its kind of like being pummeled without lube...
